Shillong, Aug 30: Twelve members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Wednesday joined the newly floated political party, People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
The 12 MDCs were formally accepted as members of the PDF by its Acting President, I. Marbaniang at a function organized at the Indoor Sports Hall of Jaïaw Shyiap and Lumpyllon here.
The 12 MDCs who are now members of the PDF would also contest the forthcoming Assembly election to be held in 2018.
The MDCs included, H.S. Shylla from Nongkrem, L.G. Nongsiej (Nongstoiñ), Latiplang Kharkongor (Nongthymmai), James Ban Basaiawmoit (Pynthorumkhrah), James Sylliang (Mawhati), Banteidor Lyngdoh (Mawkynrew), Hadrian Lyngdoh (Mawkyrwat), Arbinus Lyngdoh (Umroi), Morningstar Mawsor (Mawshynrut), Victor Rani (Jirang), Grace Mary Kharpuri (Pynursla) and Blandingstar Warjri (Mawthadraishan).
With the joining of these 12 members, the five-month old PDF has now emerged as the single largest party in KHADC.
The PDF was registered with the Election Commission recently.
The 12 MDCs who had joined PDF had left their respective political parties, and they supported suspended Congress MLA/MDC, P.N. Syiem, who is the chief executive member of the KHADC.
Syiem, would also join the PDF soon but he has to resign first as member of the State Assembly. Syiem may take over as President of the PDF once he joined.
