Shillong, August 15, 2025 – Two members of the Meghalaya Civil Defence & Home Guards Department have been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) in recognition of their distinguished service, on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day.
As confirmed by an official communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the recipients are Smti. Badalyne Kharkongor, Divisional Commandant, Shillong Home Guards Division, and Naik Parsing Ch. Marak, Central Training Institute of Civil Defence & Home Guards.
The awards follow the Presidential Notifications issued on October 14, 2023, which merged the service and gallantry medals of the Police, Fire Service, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Service into four unified medals. This change replaced the earlier organisation-specific awards, ensuring uniform recognition across the four services.
The honours were conferred as part of the national Independence Day celebrations.
