Shillong, August 18, 2025: A delegation of the Estimates Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, led by Shri Mayralborn Syiem, MLA (Nongpoh) and Chairman, conducted a spot inspection in Ri-Bhoi District on Monday.
The team comprised Committee Members Shri Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai), Shri Remington Gabil Momin (Rambrai Jyrngam), Shri Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Shri Adelbert Nongrum (North Shillong). Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, MLA (Umsning), also joined the inspection. Officials from PWD, PHE, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, and other line departments accompanied the delegation.
The inspection covered the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Nongkhrah, the Nongpoh Polytechnic, and the under-construction Umsning C&RD Block Office.
Speaking after the visit, Chairman Shri Mayralborn Syiem said the main focus was to review the long-pending Umsning C&RD Block Office project, which has faced repeated delays. The Committee directed the contractor to complete the project by November 2025, as assured by officials and the contractor. “Once completed, the office will greatly enhance public services for headmen, Village Organisations (VOs), NGOs, and Self-Help Groups,” he added.

On the educational projects, the Committee noted that the Nongpoh Polytechnic is progressing well and expected to be completed soon, benefiting students with new technical courses. However, the ITI project continues to face delays due to problems with the approach road, external electrification, and water supply. The Committee assured that it would follow up with the concerned departments to expedite these issues.
Key Directives:
Umsning C&RD Block Office: Completion deadline set for November 2025.
ITI, Nongkhrah: Infrastructure and utility hurdles to be resolved at the earliest.
