Shillong, August 25: Tura MP and Congress leader Saleng A. Sangma has accused the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government of failing to address the growing drug menace in the state, alleging that the administration treats the issue as a “business” rather than a serious threat to society.
“The government must act now to protect our youth. The MDA Government has failed to take this issue seriously — instead, it seems they treat drugs as a business rather than a threat to society,” Saleng said.
He asserted that although the Congress currently holds no seats in the Assembly, the party will continue to raise its voice against the menace and stand with the people in demanding accountability.
Congress leaders further pledged that the party would expose what they described as the failures of the MDA government in combating drugs and corruption, safeguard the interests of the youth most vulnerable to the crisis, and push for stronger enforcement and accountability from those in power.
“The people deserve a government that listens, not one that profits from their suffering. Meghalaya cannot afford to lose another generation to drugs,” the leaders stated.
