Shillong, September 23, 2025: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar today chaired a public discussion at the Secretariat with officials from the Transport and Tourism Departments, members of the All Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association, and the Deputy Commissioner to address challenges faced by the sector.
During the meeting, Dhar emphasized the need to review tourism and transport policies in comparison with other states while ensuring that Meghalaya adopts a framework that meets its unique requirements. He stated that policies must not become a burden on the tourism and taxi industry but rather foster growth and create a positive environment for stakeholders.
He further assured that the government would carefully examine the concerns raised by the association and work toward practical solutions. “We hope for a positive response as we move forward. The government is committed to improving facilities and addressing misunderstandings, so that tourism and transport in Meghalaya can become stronger,” Dhar said.
The meeting ended with an agreement to hold follow-up consultations aimed at finalizing measures that benefit both taxi operators and the tourism sector.
