Shillong, Sep 25: Rangdajied United FC staged a late comeback to hold Laitkor FC 2-2 in an entertaining Shillong Premier League 2025 clash at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Thursday.
Menangpyndap Khongjee gave Rangdajied the lead in the 25th minute with a powerful left-footed strike from the edge of the box after he had earlier rattled the crossbar in the 15th. However, Laitkor hit back just before half-time when substitute Fridison Wanniang hooked in a diagonal ball past keeper Kerichard L Marshillong in stoppage time (45’+2).
Laitkor then went ahead in the 61st minute through Giovanni Syiemiong, who scored from a tight angle to put the hosts in control. But Rangdajied refused to give up and Denelson Pyngrope rose highest to head home an 84th-minute equaliser from a corner, rescuing a valuable point.
The result leaves fifth-placed Laitkor on eight points, level with Langsning but behind on goal difference (+1 to +9). Rangdajied, who began the day in the relegation zone, climb to sixth on six points, tied with Malki and Sawmer but with a superior goal difference (-4). RUFC have, however, played one game more than their direct rivals and remain under pressure to turn their season around.
Rangdajied will rue several missed chances, including a goalmouth scramble in the 3rd minute and a header off the crossbar in the 15th. They were far more aggressive than in previous outings, having scored just twice in their last five games, but could not make their early dominance count.
Laitkor, meanwhile, made the most of their limited opportunities, with Shanborlang Nonglait also forcing an early save from Kerichard with a swerving free-kick.
Tomorrow, Sawmer face Mylliem at 3:30 PM in another crucial encounter, with both teams fighting to climb out of the bottom half of the table in what is proving to be a fiercely competitive season.
