Shillong, September 26: Governor of Meghalaya Shri C H Vijayashankar today visited the Barapani State Dispensary and attended a Special Health Camp organized under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan (SNSPA).
Addressing the gathering, the Governor hailed SNSPA, launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on September 17, 2025, as “a significant step towards strengthening women’s health, empowering families, and building a healthier nation.” He noted that the campaign goes beyond healthcare delivery, aiming to empower women at the grassroots level and ensure that mothers, children, and students receive essential health services.
During the programme, Shri Vijayashankar interacted with beneficiaries, distributed food baskets to pregnant women and sanitary pads to adolescent girls, and stressed the importance of nutrition and menstrual hygiene. He urged mothers to utilize available healthcare services, highlighting maternal and child health as the cornerstone of a progressive society.
The Governor also visited stalls set up by TB, NCD, and other health service departments, appreciating their awareness efforts. Expressing concern over the high incidence of cancer and tuberculosis in Meghalaya, he called on health officials, community workers, and citizens to work collectively to tackle these issues.
He further instructed the Deputy Commissioner and Health Department officials to ensure that the benefits of the Abhiyaan reach every section of the population in Ri Bhoi District.
Commending the efforts of the district administration, doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, and frontline staff, Shri Vijayashankar expressed confidence that Meghalaya would achieve the objectives of the campaign through sustained community participation and government commitment.
