Nongpoh | 27 September 2025 – The voices of school children, guided by their teachers and local leaders, rang out in Umsning as they raised awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Their participation signaled hope in the fight against the growing menace of drug users and peddlers in the state.
Organizers said that those who stand against drug abuse are the ones who still love their community, hold strong moral values, and wish for the wellbeing of society.

Following several awareness programmes previously conducted under the leadership of Dr. David Lyngdoh, Chairman of the Umsning People’s Front, the group yesterday organized a public awareness march. Different organizations, along with school students from the Umsning area, joined the procession to spread the message on the value of a good life and the dangers posed by drugs, described as an enemy of society.
Along with the public march through Umsning town, a public meeting was also held at the Umsning Auditorium Hall. Speakers stressed the alarming rise of drug use among youth and called for regular awareness programmes in schools and villages. They also appealed to parents to be alert and aware of the activities and lifestyles of their children.
Among the invited speakers were Additional Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi District, Bah Orville Massar, Kong Dalarisa Khongwir, Bah Shem Marbaniang, Bah Pateng Marsing, and Pastor V.P. Trang, who all delivered impactful messages to the gathering.
