Shillong, Oct 12: At approximately 7:30 pm on Saturday, explosives were recovered inside a compound in Umsning market, Ri-Bhoi district. Based on the input, the Ri-Bhoi police team launched an operation and detected the bag in front of the Meghalaya Rural Bank.
The BDDS and K-9 teams were requisitioned later. They confirmed that the abandoned bag contained explosives, and with the expertise of the BDDS team, the IED was successfully diffused.
According to police analysis, the IED was made using 4.7 kg of gelatin as an explosive, 10 detonators, and approximately 50 iron rod pieces as shrapnel.
All the materials were seized, taking all precautions. There was no loss of life or property during the operation.
The case is being registered, and an investigation is ongoing.
One suspect has been identified, and the police is working to arrest him.
