Shillong, Oct 12: Mewankitbok Kharpuri delivered another impressive bowling display, claiming 5 for 32, but Meghalaya’s batting faltered as they suffered a 172-run defeat to Manipur in the U-19 Men’s Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2025–26 (Plate Group) in Chandigarh on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Manipur opted to bat and posted 236 all out in 43 overs. Kharpuri led the bowling attack with a fine five-wicket haul, while Apandanka Marak took 2 for 39, and Angkit Tamang (1/20), Benedict Jones Makdoh (1/32), and Ashish Kumar Lohar (1/36) chipped in with one wicket each. Kharpuri was also Meghalaya’s most economical bowler, conceding just 32 runs in 10 overs.
In reply, Meghalaya were bundled out for 64 in 22.3 overs, with Gaurav Narleng (25 off 30 balls) and Dipayan Nandi (12 off 13) being the only batters to reach double figures.
This marked Meghalaya’s second straight loss, following their defeat to Sikkim on October 9, when Kharpuri had taken four wickets, including a hat-trick. Meghalaya will next face Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
Meanwhile, in Agartala, persistent rain continued to disrupt the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025–26 (Plate Group). All three of Meghalaya’s matches, including yesterday’s against Arunachal Pradesh, were abandoned without a ball being bowled. The team is scheduled to play Nagaland on Monday.
