Shillong, Oct 15: No play was possible on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 Plate Group match between Meghalaya and Mizoram due to a wet outfield.
The game was scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. at the MCA Ground in Polo, but persistent rain over the past few days left one section of the ground near the JN Stadium soggy.
Ground staff worked tirelessly throughout the day to dry the affected area, but after a 2 p.m. inspection, umpires Vinod Ingle and Dharmesh Kumar Bhardwaj decided to call off play for the day. Dark clouds hovered over the venue in the afternoon, threatening further rain, though the forecast for tomorrow is more promising with sunny conditions expected.
Despite the absence of on-field action, the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) took the opportunity to felicitate the umpires, match referee Amit Pathak, senior video analyst Utpal Das, and BCCI neutral curator B. Talukdar.
Representing the MCA were President Nababrata Bhattacharjee, Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, Honorary Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, and Apex Council Member Gideon Kharkongor. Bhattacharjee delivered a brief welcome speech in the morning before the assembled players and officials, extending a warm greeting to the visiting Mizoram team.
