Khliehriat, October 15, 2025: Based on credible intelligence inputs, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the East Jaintia Hills District Police conducted a coordinated naka operation under the jurisdiction of Lumshnong Police Station on October 14, 2025.
During the operation, police apprehended one individual believed to be part of an inter-state drug trafficking gang and recovered five soap boxes containing 60 grams of illegal narcotic substances from his possession.
Earlier that night, police received specific information regarding a suspect travelling from Silchar, Assam, in a vehicle allegedly carrying narcotics. Acting swiftly, a team from the Umkiang Patrol Post set up a naka checkpoint and successfully intercepted the vehicle. The driver, identified as Shri Abdul Rob Laskar alias Munna (22 years), son of Shri Nur Uddin Laskar, a resident of Kabuganj, Silchar, Cachar, Assam, was taken into custody.
Following further investigation and assistance from the ANTF, police apprehended another habitual offender and co-accused, Shri Asif Wahlang, a resident of Hari Sabha, Laban, Shillong.
A search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, resulting in the recovery of five soap boxes (60 grams) suspected to contain narcotics and the seizure of a Hyundai Venue vehicle (Registration No. AS-01-EJ-8977).
A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and an investigation is underway to trace the backward and forward linkages of the network.
The police have appealed to the public that anyone with information about others involved in this illegal activity should immediately contact their nearest police station. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be given.
