SHILLONG, Oct 28: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Block Integrated Development Complex (BIDC) at Pynursla C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills district, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed deep appreciation to the officers and staff of the Pynursla C&RD Block and to the local community for their dedication and cooperation in making the project a success.
Reflecting on his government’s broader developmental vision, Sangma said that strengthening administrative infrastructure has been a key priority since the formation of the MDA Government in 2018. He emphasized that while government schemes may not have changed, the focus has been on improving implementation efficiency to ensure that benefits reach citizens more effectively.
“You’ll be surprised to know that some block offices were functioning from just two rooms, with four or five departments sharing the same space. So we decided that every block must have a proper office — something that had not been done for 30 or 40 years,” the Chief Minister said.
He informed that all 56 block offices in Meghalaya have now been sanctioned funds for permanent office complexes following a uniform design model. Of these, several have already been inaugurated, while others are under construction or in the process of being tendered. “Within a year or two, every block will have a new office,” he assured.
Highlighting broader infrastructure investments, Sangma said that over ₹150 crore has been spent on administrative buildings across the state. Additional allocations have been made under the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF) to enable district Superintendents of Police to directly carry out repairs and upgrades to police stations.
The Chief Minister also noted that nearly ₹500 crore has been spent on the renovation and construction of school buildings — covering lower primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels. “We are ensuring that not just administration, but also our government schools have proper facilities. Now we are working on improving aided and SSA schools as well,” he said.
He added that significant funds have been sanctioned for health infrastructure, including PHCs, sub-centres, and new DC and BDO offices in areas long lacking proper facilities.
“If we desire to give good service to the people at the grassroots level, it has to come with proper structures to serve them. It is with that mindset and vision that this block today has materialized,” Sangma said.
Other dignitaries present included Sanbor Shullai, Minister of Arts and Culture; CVD Diengdoh, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya; Evarinlla Warjri, SDO (Civil), Pynursla Civil Sub-Division; and Peter T. Passah, MCS, Project Director, DRDA, East Khasi Hills, among others.
