Shillong, October 30: The Managing Director of JETS 24×7, Pynskhemlang W. Uriah, has filed an official complaint with the Chief Executive Officer of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), alleging that the bike taxi platform Rapido has been illegally displaying posters, hoardings, flex banners, and other advertisements across the city without obtaining the required permission from the authorities.

In his complaint, Uriah stated that Rapido’s actions constitute a clear violation of municipal norms, as no prior approval had been granted by the SMB. He urged the Board to launch an immediate investigation and take appropriate legal action to curb unauthorized commercial publicity within Shillong’s municipal limits.

Copies of the complaint have also been forwarded to Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum, seeking their intervention in addressing the issue.

Supporting the allegations, an RTI response issued by the Shillong Municipal Board on October 13, 2025, categorically stated that no permission was granted to Rapido for putting up posters, hoardings, flex banners, or any other promotional materials within the Board’s jurisdiction.

The revelation has heightened public concern over the misuse of public spaces and the potential disregard of civic laws by private companies.

Citizens have called on the authorities to enforce municipal regulations strictly and ensure that Shillong’s cleanliness and aesthetic appeal are not compromised by unauthorized advertising activities.
