Nongpoh, Nov 12: Continuing their ongoing drive to check vehicles plying through the district, the Ri Bhoi police on Tuesday evening conducted a surprise checking operation at Umling to ensure that motorists comply with traffic rules and regulations.
The operation was personally supervised by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ri Bhoi, who was present on the spot along with his team to oversee the checking process.
During the operation, police detained a VIP vehicle from Assam reportedly belonging to Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain. The vehicle was found fitted with a VIP light, though the MP himself was not present inside. According to the driver’s statement, the car was being used by the MP’s children and a few others who were not authorised to use the VIP vehicle or the beacon light.
Ri Bhoi police have taken strict action against the misuse of the vehicle and imposed a fine on those involved. The department has made it clear that such violations, even by individuals linked to public representatives, will not be tolerated.
It may be recalled that following the intensified checking drive across Ri Bhoi District, there have been several cases of traffic rule violations detected, serving as a warning to errant motorists.
Members of the Seng Samla Umling also joined the police in supporting the checking drive at Umling, reinforcing community participation in promoting traffic discipline and law enforcement.
