Shillong, Nov 14: The Shillong Sports Association (SSA) has unveiled the groupings and fixtures for the inaugural SSA Champions Cup 2025, scheduled to kick off on 24 November. The new tournament will feature the winners and top teams from the association’s five men’s football divisions, bringing them together in a single high-intensity competition.
A total of 10 teams have been drawn into two groups of five, with each team set to play one match against every other side in its group. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals. The champions will walk away with a cash prize of ₹8 lakh, making it one of Meghalaya’s most lucrative football tournaments.
The competition will begin immediately after the conclusion of the ongoing First Division. Nongkseh and Meghalaya Police have already secured Top 2 finishes, though the title is yet to be decided.
Group A includes Shillong Premier League champions Langsning, Second Division winners Mylliem Lum, Third Division runners-up Umlyngka, Fourth Division champions Mawkasiang, and the First Division runners-up.
Group B comprises SPL runners-up Shillong Lajong, Second Division runners-up Laitkyrhong, Third Division winners Mawkriah West, Fourth Division runners-up Mawlynrei, and the First Division champions.
The tournament will open with Mawkasiang vs Mylliem Lum at 1 PM on 24 November, followed by Langsning vs Umlyngka at 4:30 PM. The semifinals are slated for 9 and 10 December, with the final to be played on 13 December.
The Champions Cup trophy was unveiled on Thursday during the SSA Super Cup 2025 final by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, in the presence of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, alongside team captains and officials from the 10 participating clubs.
To ensure competitive balance, teams from the Second, Third and Fourth Divisions will be permitted to sign up to five players on loan for the tournament. The SSA said the Champions Cup will help assess the strength gap between teams across divisions and assist selectors and scouts in identifying emerging talent within the local football structure.
Backed by the strong fan base of lower-division clubs and the added excitement of inter-division play, the SSA Champions Cup 2025 is expected to be a major new attraction in Meghalaya’s football calendar.
