Shillong, Nov. 20: The locality beautification project at Umpling was inaugurated on Thursday by Smt. R. M. Kurbah, IAS, in the presence of Shri P. T. Passah, MCS, ADC; Shri S. Warjri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner; and members of the locality. The project was taken up with funds sanctioned under the Locality Beautification Enhancement Project, an initiative designed to rejuvenate neighbourhoods across Meghalaya, promote urban tourism, empower community institutions and strengthen civic pride.
Sanctioned at a cost of ₹10 lakh under Phase 3 of the competition, the Umpling project aims to blend innovative design with local cultural identity. Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Commissioner commended the Headman and locality members for their dedication, noting that such projects not only beautify public spaces but also showcase a creative fusion of modern aesthetics and traditional values.
Headman of Umpling, Shri S. F. Pyngrope, expressed his gratitude to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for its continued financial support to the locality, enabling community-led initiatives that contribute to urban improvement and public welfare.
