Shillong, Nov 21: With the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 campaign now concluded, Meghalaya is gearing up for its next challenge — the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025–26 — transitioning from the grind of four-day cricket to the fast-paced excitement of T20.
The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) on Friday announced the state squad for the tournament. The Plate Group matches will be held in Pune from 26 November to 6 December.
In a significant decision, Meghalaya will field an all-domiciled squad, with no guest players included. Selections were based on two criteria: performances in the Ranji Trophy for first-class players and a preparatory camp held at Jagiroad, Assam, for those outside the Ranji squad.
Meghalaya will open their campaign against Sikkim on 26 November. Other teams in the Plate Group include Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.
The team will depart for Pune on 23 November. Players currently in Jagiroad are to report directly to Guwahati Airport, while those from the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region will assemble at Polo Ground, Shillong, before proceeding to the airport.
