Shillong Nov. 24: The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has renewed its call for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the 2022 Mukroh firing incident, which claimed several innocent lives. Addressing the media, HYC President Bah Roy Kupar Synrem expressed concern that even after three years, the Government has failed to provide clarity on those responsible for the tragic events.
Bah Synrem said the prolonged delay and lack of transparency in the investigation have eroded the confidence of the victims’ families and the public. He added that justice remains elusive, and the incomplete inquiry has raised serious questions about accountability.
Calling the incident a grave violation of citizens’ rights, the HYC President stressed that such a case should not be allowed to fade into obscurity. “The CBI is an independent and competent agency capable of conducting a fair and thorough investigation into the Mukroh killings,” he asserted.
The Council urged both the State and Central Governments to take immediate steps to initiate a CBI inquiry so that the truth is uncovered and justice is delivered. Bah Synrem further appealed for proper compensation for the families of those who lost their lives, in accordance with the law.
