SHILLONG, Nov 27: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed serious concern over what it claims is the state government’s failure to act against National Law University (NLU) Meghalaya Vice Chancellor Prof. Indrajit Dube, despite allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities.

In a letter submitted to Law Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday, the Union alleged that Prof. Dube has been involved in financial mismanagement, illegal appointments, and violations of the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy.

The KSU said it had already submitted RTI findings to concerned authorities, which it believes are sufficient grounds for his removal. It also claimed that the government had earlier assured the Union that an inquiry would be completed within two months.

“It has been six months and no action has been taken. The VC continues in his merry ways making illegal appointments and continuing his corrupt practices,” the KSU stated, accusing the government of “promoting corrupt practices” through its inaction.

The Union pointed to several alleged instances of misuse of funds, including:

₹15,10,347 spent on non-official visits

₹3,56,750 on alcoholic beverages

₹46,83,500 paid as salaries to professors who did not take classes

It further alleged that recent recruitments were designed to exclude indigenous candidates by setting what it called “excessive eligibility criteria,” which the Union believes is part of a move to weaken the state’s reservation policy.

“Such actions will help strengthen his cause to change the reservation policy to benefit his nepotistic appointees,” the letter claimed.

Calling the situation “an important issue affecting the integrity of a premier institution,” the KSU urged the government to take swift action before Prof. Dube’s term ends in February 2026.

The Union reiterated its opposition to any extension of his tenure.
“Indrajit Dube must not get a second term. The government must ensure that corruption is not tolerated,” it asserted.
