Speaking at the event, speakers emphasized that persons with disabilities should never view themselves as lesser members of society, as they hold an important role and are capable of contributing significantly when provided with the right opportunities and support. It was highlighted that both the State and Central Governments offer various welfare schemes, assistive devices, skill development training programmes and financial support through bank loans at subsidised rates to enable individuals with disabilities to start their own ventures.
The gathering was attended by local MLA Mayral Born Syiem, Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, officials and staff of the Social Welfare Department, members of the Nongpoh Area Women Welfare Association and community representatives. The programme also aimed to inspire empowerment, inclusion and equal participation for persons with disabilities in all aspects of society.
