SHILLONG, DEC 4: Former Manipur Assembly Speaker Irengbam Hemochandra Singh has been appointed as the national vice president of the National People’s Party (NPP) with immediate effect, for the 2025–2028 term.
The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued on Thursday by NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Singh began his political journey following the tragic demise of his father, late Tompok Singh, in a plane crash in 1991. Contesting the by-election to fill his father’s vacant seat, he was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly at the age of 26 and has since won five Assembly elections.
A seasoned leader with long legislative experience, Singh’s induction into the NPP national leadership is expected to strengthen the party’s organizational structure and political presence in the Northeast.
