NONGPOH, DEC 4: Recognising the proactive enforcement measures undertaken to enhance public safety on highways, community leaders from Ri Bhoi on Thursday felicitated the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ri Bhoi District, V.S. Rathore, IPS, for his dedicated efforts in monitoring traffic violations and ensuring safer road conditions across the district.
The delegation, comprising Eddie G. Kharbani and Elizabeth Lapang from the UDP Ri Bhoi District, Pateng Marsing, President of the Confederation of Ri Bhoi People, Standwell Manih, President of the Ri Bhoi Commercial Pick-up Owners and Drivers Association, along with members of the association, met the SSP at his office in Nongpoh to express appreciation for the ongoing policing initiatives.
As a mark of respect and gratitude, the group presented a traditional Khasi shawl and a memento inscribed with words of appreciation for the officer’s leadership and commitment.
The leaders acknowledged the SSP’s continuous supervision of police teams across police stations and outposts in the district, who have been conducting regular vehicle checks to curb traffic violations and improve commuter safety on the national highway.
During the interaction, the delegation also submitted several suggestions and concerns related to road safety and transport regulation. These included issues such as the increasing number of overloaded vehicles, poor road conditions along the National Highway, continued toll fee collection at 20 Mile despite deteriorating road quality, illegal transportation of goods and livestock from outside the state, insufficient inspection by Veterinary authorities, and inadequately covered trucks carrying materials like gravel and stones, which pose dangers to smaller vehicles.
They urged the district police to continue strengthening enforcement and coordination with related departments to ensure better regulation and safe travel for the public.
The meeting concluded with the assurance of continued cooperation between community organisations and district authorities toward improving highway discipline and overall safety in Ri Bhoi.
