Shillong, January 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday intensified its outreach ahead of the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, with senior party leader and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai appealing to voters to support the party’s development-focused agenda.
Addressing the media, Shullai urged the people of Garo Hills to assess the progress made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in road connectivity, highways and infrastructure development. He said voters should “see the difference between 46 years ago and now” in terms of growth and governance.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Shullai said the BJP expects to win between eight and ten seats but appealed for a mandate of at least 20 seats to form the GHADC executive committee. He assured that a BJP-led council would prioritise development initiatives and employment generation in the region.
Highlighting the government’s focus on youth empowerment, Shullai said a comprehensive scheme is in place to recruit around 3,000 youths into the police department. He added that the BJP is in the process of finalising candidates for most GHADC constituencies.
Shullai further said he would personally campaign across all constituencies once candidates are finalised, underscoring the party’s commitment to securing a strong mandate in the council elections.
