Shillong, January 30: A total of 48,793 students have appeared for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2026 conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE), according to official data released by the Board.

Of the total candidates, 20,210 are boys and 28,583 are girls, reflecting a significantly higher participation of female students in this year’s examination.

The examinations are being conducted at 171 centres across the state:

Shillong Region: 97 centres

Tura Region: 74 centres

A total of 1,935 schools and institutions are participating in the SSLC Examination 2026.

Smooth Conduct Reported

MBOSE officials stated that the examinations have been progressing smoothly across all districts, with no major disruptions reported so far.

The SSLC Examination commenced on Thursday, with students reaching centres early on the first day. Parents were seen assisting candidates in locating examination centres and roll numbers. The examination will continue until February 11, 2026.

In Tura, examinations are being conducted smoothly across centres in various districts, with arrangements in place to ensure a fair and secure process. In Shillong, students arrived well ahead of time for last-minute revisions before the first paper, English. Examination authorities, including superintendents, invigilators, and police personnel, remained vigilant to maintain order and prevent malpractice.

Early Examination Schedule

This year, MBOSE advanced the SSLC examination schedule compared to previous years to better align with the academic calendar. The move aims to provide students adequate time to pursue higher secondary education without delays.

The revised timetable also supports students who do not clear the examination in their first attempt, with the supplementary examination system, introduced last year, being continued.
