SHILLONG, FEB 13: Three alleged bike lifters were arrested after villagers in Umthli under Pynursla police station apprehended them on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Pyndapborlang Khonglah, Bamkerlang Surong, and Iohborlang Mylliem Umlong, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said in a statement.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Rahul Thapa, who reported that his motorcycle (ML 05 AC 4622, Yamaha MT 15) was stolen from the Goenka Compound parking lot.
Police have registered a case at Sadar Police Station vide Case No. 42(02)2026 under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the operation, police seized one Hyundai i10 (ML 05Z 5650), one Alto 800 (ML 05N 4146), and three mobile phones — one Vivo, one Samsung, and one Poco — from the possession of the accused.
Investigation is underway to ascertain their possible involvement in other two-wheeler theft cases, the SP added.
