SHILLONG, FEB 13: The Hynniewtrep Youth Federation (HNYF) Northern Region has raised concerns over what it termed as inadequate services at Nongpoh Civil Hospital and urged MLA Mayral Born Syiem to intervene.
In a letter addressed to the legislator, the HNYF highlighted several issues, including the underutilisation of the hospital’s trauma centre, the absence of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and a shortage of specialist doctors.
“The trauma centre is functioning only at 60 per cent capacity, despite having the infrastructure in place,” the letter stated, adding that the situation hampers the delivery of critical care services to patients in the region.
The organisation also expressed concern over prisoners and undertrials being accommodated in general wards alongside regular patients, saying the practice creates a sense of insecurity among the public.
“There is a need to provide separate accommodation for such people,” the HNYF urged.
Appealing for immediate intervention, the federation stated, “We request you to kindly direct the concerned department to take action at the earliest.”
