Shillong, Feb 22: The Young Mizo Association (YMA) and the Mizo Students Union (MSU) organized a blood donation camp at Mizoram House, Cleve Colony, Shillong, to commemorate the 39th Statehood Day of Mizoram.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Laldinpuia of MCH Hospital, Umsning, who encouraged participants to contribute to society through voluntary blood donation. He emphasized that donating blood is a noble act that can save lives and strengthen community bonds.
Dr. Debdutta Bhattacharya from the Blood Bank of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) lauded the Mizo community for their consistent support in organizing and participating in blood donation drives. He highlighted the crucial role such initiatives play in maintaining adequate blood supplies for patients in need.
More than 100 volunteers turned up for the camp, reflecting strong community participation. However, due to limited arrangements, around 70 donors were able to donate blood.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by MSU President Samuel Rothangpuia, who expressed gratitude to the medical team, volunteers, and organizers for making the event a success.
