SHILLONG, MAR 3: The Joint Coordination Committee on Reservation Policy (JCCRP) has outrightly rejected the report of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy and demanded a three-way division of Meghalaya’s 80 percent job quota among the Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo communities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the JCCRP said a meeting held on Monday brought together all affiliated organisations, prominent intellectuals, and representatives from the Jaiñtia Hills region. The meeting resolved to seek justice and ensure the rightful share for the people of Jaiñtia Hills, firmly grounded in the provisions of the Constitution of India.

The committee argued that the design of the reservation policy must reflect the structure of the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) — Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

“Any policy framework concerning reservation must be structured in accordance with the constitutional recognition of these councils,” the statement said.

The JCCRP also urged the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government to conduct a comprehensive socio-economic survey across all three ADCs. It stressed that future decisions on reservation policy should be data-driven, fair, and reflective of ground realities.

The organisation maintained that a scientific assessment of socio-economic conditions in the three regions is essential to ensure equitable distribution of opportunities and to address long-standing concerns regarding representation in government employment.
