SHILLONG, MAR 20: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said that investigations are underway to determine whether the recent unrest in Garo Hills had any political motivation.

Responding to queries from reporters, Tynsong, who also holds the Home portfolio in Meghalaya, stated that no conclusions have been reached so far.

“Investigation is going on. As of now, I cannot say right now. We are yet to reach a conclusion. So let the investigation go on,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister further informed that authorities have stepped up vigilance ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations, directing district administrations and law enforcement agencies to remain proactive.

“So we have instructed the district administration, as well as law enforcers to be more proactive on this issue and will make sure that the celebrations are smooth and it goes well as planned,” he added.

The assurance comes amid efforts by the state government to maintain peace and ensure normalcy in sensitive areas of Garo Hills.
