Shillong, March 20: Sanfida Nongrum, a member of the Indian women’s national football team, was felicitated and honoured by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Expressing her gratitude after receiving the honour, Nongrum said it was a proud moment to represent the country at the highest level.
Speaking to the media, she described her journey as both challenging and motivating, noting that despite difficulties, the opportunity to play for the national team has been deeply rewarding.
She highlighted that financial constraints and lack of adequate support were among the major challenges she faced along the way. However, her determination and hard work enabled her to overcome these obstacles and achieve her goals.
Nongrum also stressed that football in Meghalaya requires greater support and encouragement from both the government and the public to help nurture young talent and enable more players to represent the country on larger platforms.
Encouraging the youth, she urged aspiring sportspersons not to give up despite challenges, but to continue working hard and believing in themselves.
