Shillong, March 31: Leader of Opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titustarwell Chyne, on Tuesday said opposition members held a meeting with the Executive Committee to deliberate on several pressing issues concerning the Council’s functioning.
Addressing the media, Chyne said the opposition participated in the meeting in a constructive spirit, aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and smooth administration within the Council. He emphasised that the discussions were guided by a sense of collective responsibility rather than any ill intent.
During the meeting, the opposition raised concerns over key administrative matters, including issues related to suspension procedures and broader governance practices. Chyne stressed that such matters must be handled with due diligence and in accordance with established procedures.
Highlighting the seriousness of the concerns, he said they require careful examination and institutional attention. The opposition has proposed the formation of a special committee to review and deliberate on the issues in detail.
According to Chyne, the proposed committee will include members from the opposition, officials, and other relevant stakeholders, and is expected to be constituted by next week.
“The committee will sit and thoroughly examine all the matters,” he said, expressing confidence that the initiative will bring a more structured and transparent approach to addressing the issues.
He further indicated that the panel may also consider amendments to existing provisions, noting that certain aspects of the current framework require review and improvement.
Chyne expressed optimism that the committee would provide constructive recommendations and contribute towards strengthening the overall functioning of the Council.
