SHILLONG, MAY 15:The state BJP organised a prayer meeting on Friday for three church leaders killed in Manipur, with party leaders condemning the violence and appealing for harmony.
Held under the guidance of state President Rikman G Momin, the service “beseeched the Lord that the souls of Revered Vumthang Sitlhou, Reverend Kaigoulun Lhouvum and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou be granted eternal peace at the feet of our Merciful Lord.”
The prayer service was led by State Vice President Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit. His prayer “reminded everyone of Jesus Christ’s message of love and forgiveness, which remains mankind’s only remedy in a world that continues to slip deeper into a quagmire of hatred bloodshed and revenge.”
Party Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang urged party workers to pray daily for those affected. He requested every Meghalaya BJP Member to spend a minute everyday praying for the people of Manipur who have and continue to suffer untold miseries as a result of the violence in Manipur.”
Condemning the killings, Kharkrang said, “Condemning the act in the strongest terms, Shri Kharkrang reminded everyone that Meghalaya remains a haven of harmony and appealed to everyone that peace must be protected at all costs.”
He added, “What better way to develop understanding of each other’s cultural practices but by taking part in each one’s festival, he reminded the gathering.”
Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait called the incident “a crime against humanity, a shock for every Indian,” and “prayed for calm and peace in Manipur.”
She expressed confidence that “the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be arrested and brought to justice at the earliest.”
