SHILLONG, JUN 5: United Democratic Party president Metbah Lyngdoh on Friday said the party has accepted the resignation of Robertjune Kharjahrin, its RDA candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and denied any division within the party.

“See, everyone has the freedom to think in whatever way we feel like. I would also like to enlighten everyone as far as any doubts or things which are not clear in their minds,” Lyngdoh told reporters when asked about Kharjahrin’s resignation.

“However, in this case we have received the resignation letter citing that because of that,” he said, without elaborating on the reason stated.

“From the party level we have nothing to say. We respect the decision made by him so far and we have accepted his resignation,” Lyngdoh added.

Kharjahrin, who contested the Shillong parliamentary seat as the Regional Democratic Alliance candidate backed by the UDP, had recently submitted his resignation from the party. Denying speculation of infighting, Lyngdoh said there was no division in the UDP.

“No, there is no division because as I have said we have received the resignation letter from him, so I don’t see anything as you said — differences between or differences that we have in the party. I don’t see anything like that,” he said.

On concerns raised by the UDP Shillong City District unit, Lyngdoh said internal matters should be resolved within the party.

“See, everybody has the right to express whatever they have in their mind, the concern or the decision taken by the party. There is always a platform within the party to dialogue, to interact, to have consultation with respect to any matter related to party affairs,” he said.

Addressing a letter from the Shillong City unit that was leaked, Lyngdoh said the issue had been resolved.

“In this regard I would like to say here, the letter which you mentioned just now was basically the letter of the UDP Shillong City which was leaked out, whatever sources,” he said.

“But as I have requested, kindly, this is an internal matter of the party. We have sorted it out. I have personally met the Shillong City unit and everything has been settled down,” Lyngdoh added.
