Youth “forcefully” recruited by GNLA surrenders

Shillong, Aug 23: A youth, who was forcefully recruited as a courier, allegedly by the proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) surrendered before the police in North Garo Hills district on Wednesday.

Sengku M Momin (21) alias Silku and Dimchang from Adokgre village under Kharkutta police station, surrendered before the police of Adokgre Anti Dacoity Camp in the presence of church leaders and villagers.

The church leaders were instrumental in bringing back Sengku back to mainstream. The peace committee along with family members have been appealing to the youth to surrender for quite some time.

The surrendered youth alleged that he was forcefully recruited into the GNLA.

North Garo Hills district police chief, D.P Marak, said that the youth would be handed over to the district headquarter for thorough investigation.

According to police sources, Sengku was with GNLA commander – in – chief (CIC) Sohan D Shira alias Wegara and Manoj Rabha alias Dristi Rajkhowa during the August 16 – Dimit encounter.

He was forcefully taken by Sohan’s man who asked him to take along with him all important documents.
