Shillong, June 19: The Governor of Meghalaya has accepted the resignation of Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin from the post of Executive Member (EM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) with immediate effect.
The acceptance of the resignation was notified by the District Council Affairs Department through an official notification issued on June 19, 2026.
According to the notification, the resignation has been accepted under Rule 21(1)(b) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, as adapted by the KHADC.
“The Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to accept the resignation tendered by Shri Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin from the office of Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council with immediate effect,” the notification stated.
The order was issued by the District Council Affairs Department and signed by Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, C.V.D. Diengdoh, IAS.
Kharjahrin’s resignation comes at a significant juncture, coinciding with the ongoing Summer Session of the KHADC, and is expected to have political implications within the Council’s Executive Committee.
While no official reason for his resignation has been disclosed, the development has sparked discussions over the likely reshuffle within the Executive Committee and the appointment of a new Executive Member to fill the vacant position.
Political observers believe the vacancy could influence the internal dynamics of the Executive Committee as it seeks to reorganise its leadership and administrative responsibilities in the coming days.
The focus now shifts to the Executive Committee and the Governor’s office regarding the appointment of Kharjahrin’s successor, a decision that is likely to attract considerable attention within the political circles of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
