SHILLONG, JUN 29: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek on Monday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “sending marathons of union ministers to Meghalaya with packages for development,” adding that the responsibility now lies with the state government to implement the central schemes.

“At the beginning I would like to thank the prime minister for sending marathons of union ministers to Meghalaya with a package for development. Now it is the responsibility of our state government to implement those packages that have been sent through the NDA government,” Hek told reporters.

Asked whether the ruling NPP often takes credit for central schemes, Hek said, “Any political party can take credit, but everybody knows these are all schemes coming from the Prime Minister of BJP. He is the prime minister of the NDA, of course, but he is from the BJP. So whatever has been done is due to the blessing of the BJP at the centre.”

On implementation, he said the responsibility rests with the respective departments.

“We have different departments. If the scheme comes from the PWD department, the PWD department has its own way of executing the work. When it comes to the health department, the health department has its own way of implementing it,” he said.

“If the central government sends a package to the PWD department, we have entrusted the PWD department to do the needful to ensure all schemes from the central government reach the people,” Hek added.

“In the health department, it is the duty of the health minister and the department to implement the scheme so that it reaches the people,” he said.

“We are concerned about the different schemes sent by the Centre. It is the duty and responsibility of the state government to implement these schemes and ensure they reach the people,” Hek stated.

Responding to a query on whether the flow of schemes was linked to elections, Hek said, “It is not related to elections. That is development. Development happens at any time. We are looking for a lot of development coming to Meghalaya, particularly in the tourism, sports and health sectors.”

He added that the party continues to push for more support from the Centre.

“We have also requested the union government under the leadership of the prime minister to send as much as possible. They have been doing so by sending marathons of union ministers with packages to Meghalaya for the development of our state. From the party, we are also pursuing the same matter for the all-round development of Meghalaya,” Hek said.
