Shillong, July 9: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Mangalore Unit, has successfully concluded the 3rd Hynñiewtrep Sports Meet 2026, which was held on July 5 at Milagres Ground, Mangalore.
The closing ceremony was graced by KSU Bengaluru Unit President, Donboklang Nongphud, as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted issues concerning the welfare of Hynñiewtrep people living and working in Karnataka.
He urged members of the Hynñiewtrep community residing in Karnataka to remain united, support one another, and work together, stressing that solidarity is essential to safeguard their identity, rights, and collective welfare while living outside Meghalaya.
Nongphud also appealed to the Meghalaya government to expedite the establishment of the Meghalaya House in Bengaluru, saying it would greatly benefit students, employees, patients, and other residents from Meghalaya staying in Karnataka.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of youths from Meghalaya travelling to Karnataka for education and employment, he advised them to carefully verify job opportunities, educational institutions, recruitment agencies, and accommodation before relocating, citing the growing number of scams and fraudulent activities.
The KSU Mangalore Unit expressed gratitude to all its members, supporters, elders, volunteers, and especially the KSU central body (Sengkmie) for their continuous support and cooperation in making the sports meet a success. The union said the overwhelming participation reflected the spirit of unity and brotherhood among the Khasi community.
The union also congratulated all winners and participating teams for displaying sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
