Shillong, August 10: The Archery Association of Meghalaya will organise the Meghalaya State Archery Championship 2026 from Tuesday at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre on the NEHU campus in Shillong.
Hundreds of archers representing different districts of Meghalaya have arrived in the state capital for the championship, with practice sessions held on Monday ahead of the opening day.
Competitions will be held in recurve, compound and Indian round events, with both team and individual categories scheduled over the three-day championship. The event will conclude on Thursday.
Meghalaya’s standing in archery has been growing in recent years, with the state’s archers winning two gold medals and a bronze at the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games held in April this year.
The state championship assumes added significance as the Archery Association of Meghalaya steps up preparations for the 39th National Games, which Meghalaya is scheduled to host in 2027.
The opening ceremony will be held at 10:45 am on Tuesday, with Smti Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, attending as the chief guest.
