SHILLONG, AUG 14: Meghalaya is home to 9,244 People Living with HIV (PLHIV), according to the latest HIV Estimation Report 2025 cited by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society.
MACS released the updated figure on Thursday as part of the statewide rollout of Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0, which was launched on August 12 at Lady Keane College, Shillong.
The campaign aims to expand awareness, increase testing, and reduce stigma around HIV across the state.The Society also shared recent detection data.
Between April and June 2026, 558 new HIV cases were identified in the general population, while 60 pregnant women tested positive during the same quarter.
MACS said early diagnosis and treatment remain critical to improving outcomes and preventing transmission, particularly from mother to child.
To reach communities, the campaign has put in place a large-scale outreach plan. This includes 1,026 village-level meetings, 3,000 sessions in schools, and 85 sessions in colleges.
Public engagement activities feature 30 folk performances and 30 flash mobs, while 15,000 households are being covered through door-to-door awareness.
Health access is being strengthened with 12 special camps in government hospitals and 10 pop-up awareness booths set up at different locations across Meghalaya
