Shillong, September 3: Sawmer produced a stirring second-half comeback to defeat Nangkiew Irat 2-1 in the Shillong Premier League 2026 at the SSA Stadium here on Thursday.

Nangkiew Irat took the lead through Ronaldkydon L Nonglait in the 38th minute, but Sawmer turned the game around with goals from Khrawkupar Tamu (70′) and Andy Mawthoh (75′).

Nangkiew Irat, who had won their previous two matches, were aiming for a third straight victory and created a couple of chances before taking the lead. Ronald’s left-footed effort, however, proved too comfortable for Sawmer goalkeeper Pyrshangbanbha Dkhar, who was unable to keep it out.

The goal was the 50th of SPL 2026, and for much of the match it appeared likely to remain the only goal.

Sawmer, though, came alive in the second half.

Their equaliser came from a short corner, with the resulting cross finding Khrawkupar at the far post, where he headed the ball home.

Sawmer then pushed for the winner, with Wanshanlang Dkhar going close twice before substitute Andy Mawthoh completed the comeback in the 76th minute, tapping in a cross from the left flank.

The victory marked the first comeback win by a team in the last six SPL matches.

The result also reshaped the middle of the table. Sawmer moved up to sixth with six points, pushing Nongkseh down to seventh on four points.

Nangkiew Irat’s defeat saw them surrender fourth place to Meghalaya Police. Both teams have seven points and a +1 goal difference, but Meghalaya Police move ahead after scoring more goals—seven compared to Nangkiew Irat’s five.

The Shillong Premier League will now take a short break before resuming on September 9, when bottom-placed Mylliem take on second-placed Shillong Lajong at 3:40pm.
