Two-day meet brings together young swimmers, experienced competitors and masters at Lapalang
Shillong, September 11: Swimmers across age groups and experience levels took to the pool as True North Leisure Centre inaugurated its 1st Open Swimming Competition and Masters Meet at its facility in Lapalang here on Thursday.
The two-day competition has brought together dozens of swimmers aged seven years and above, competing across various individual and relay events and different swimming styles.
The leisure centre, which opened last year, had earlier hosted a school-level swimming championship in 2025. This year, True North has expanded its competitive calendar with the open meet, building on its efforts to promote year-round swimming through its Mission Compound complex.
The opening day witnessed strong competition across the various categories, with swimmers displaying enthusiasm and determination throughout the events.
The presence of schoolmates, parents, teachers and supporters added to the lively atmosphere at the venue, turning the competition into a festive sporting occasion.
The meet will conclude on Saturday.
The chief guest at the opening ceremony was Dangsan Khyriem, Superintendent of Police (City), while young footballer Phrangki Buam was the guest of honour.
