SHILLONG, SEPT 25: Accusing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of manipulating the electoral system to help the BJP, the Congress on Friday burnt his effigy at the parking lot near Additional Secretariat and sought his arrest.

The protest march from Congress Bhavan to the Additional Secretariat was led by MPCC president Vincent H Pala.

“The CEC has manipulated the system in the Election Commission. For the last 10 months, 14 objections have been raised by the two other election commissioners but he bulldozed all these with the help of the BJP,” Pala alleged.

He said the law was amended to facilitate manipulation of public mandate. “In Haryana Congress was supposed to win, in Maharashtra Congress was supposed to win and in West Bengal there is huge manipulation, huge deletion of voters from the list,” he said.

“All the list and all data has been manipulated in Delhi by a single man, the CEC and his office,” Pala added.

Demanding that Kumar resign and face inquiry, he said, “We demand that he should step down and resign immediately. There should be a commission of inquiry against him, he should be arrested then only will people have trust and faith in the Constitution and in the system which the Election Commission has been running for so long.”

Expressing gratitude to the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and party workers, Pala said, “The system has collapsed, the BJP has manipulated. He should be arrested and the BJP should take responsibility for all these which they have done.”

He said further action will be as per CWC decision. “The CWC will meet very soon and we will comply with its decision. Today’s protest is at state level, we will be doing at district level,” Pala said.
