Shillong to Host IWL 2 Group C Matches, Jakrem FC to Make Debut

Shillong, September 29, 2026: Shillong has been selected as one of the venues for the first round of the Indian Women’s League 2 (IWL 2) 2026-27, with matches scheduled to take place at the SSA Stadium in Polo next month.

The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) announced that Jakrem FC, champions of the inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025, will represent the state in the national-level competition for the first time.

No club from Meghalaya has previously competed in the IWL or IWL 2. The erstwhile Royal Wahingdoh were invited to participate in the qualifiers for the inaugural edition of the IWL in 2016-17 but failed to progress to the main competition after losing all four matches.

The introduction of a dedicated statewide women’s league by the MFA last year enabled Jakrem FC to qualify for this season’s IWL 2.

Jakrem will compete in Group C alongside the All India Football Federation’s TDS Academy, Kemp FC and Mumbai Knights FC.

The first-round matches will be played on October 25, 27 and 29. The four group winners and the two best second-placed teams will advance to the final round, which is scheduled to begin in November.

Although IWL 2 is a club-based competition, the MFA intends to use the tournament as preparation for Meghalaya’s participation in the 39th National Games next year, which the state will host.
