Shillong, October 3: Meghalaya Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla met Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya to discuss preparations for the 39th National Games, scheduled to be hosted by Meghalaya in 2027.
Shylla was accompanied by Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) President John Kharshiing during the meeting at Mandaviya’s official residence. The meeting followed the state Sports Minister’s return from an exposure trip to the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
During the discussions, Shylla emphasised the need for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to constitute the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) at the earliest. He said the committee’s formation would provide clarity on the sporting disciplines to be included, enabling the state to plan and prepare more effectively.
The Meghalaya delegation also sought additional financial assistance from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to support preparations for the national sporting event.
Mandaviya asked the delegation to submit further documentation and assured them that a meeting involving sports officials and IOA representatives would be arranged to take the discussions forward.
