Guwahati, October 3: The RUPP Foundation celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with the children of Jibonalay Azara Boys Home in Guwahati on October 2, bringing together creative activities, reflections on Mahatma Gandhi’s values and an environmental initiative.

The programme was attended by 15 children of Jibonalay Azara Boys Home, along with members of the home’s staff, the RUPP Foundation team and volunteers. The celebration was organised to introduce the younger generation to Gandhi’s values while encouraging creativity and environmental responsibility.

As part of the programme, an art competition was organised for the children and conducted by Zubin Muktiar. The activity provided the participants with an opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas through art.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Prasanna Mazumder spoke about Mahatma Gandhi’s role in India’s freedom movement and the continuing relevance of his principles in everyday life.

He encouraged the children to embrace values such as truth, simplicity, compassion and responsibility, highlighting their importance in building responsible individuals and communities.

The celebration also included a plantation drive, adding an environmental dimension to the programme. Participants planted fruit-bearing saplings and were encouraged to recognise the importance of protecting nature and maintaining a healthy environment.

The programme was coordinated by RUPP Foundation team members Hriday Jyoti Ojha, Jaydip Phukan, Biju Bora, Biki Tirua and Harish Barman, along with volunteers Abhishek Deka, Rituraj Kalita and Doriyol Bora.

The celebration sought to connect Gandhi’s legacy with practical activities that encouraged creativity, community participation and environmental responsibility among the children.

Through the combination of an art competition, an interaction on Gandhian values and a plantation drive, the programme marked Gandhi Jayanti as an occasion for reflection as well as action, while encouraging the younger generation to carry forward values of compassion, responsibility and care for the environment.
