Nongpoh, October 7: Leaders of the Ri Bhoi People’s Council (RBPC) on Wednesday met the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district to express their appreciation for the district administration’s decision to restrict recruitment for Staff Nurse posts at MCH Hospital, Parila Umsning, to residents of Ri Bhoi district.
The meeting followed the organisation’s earlier demand that the Staff Nurse recruitment examination conducted by the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) be postponed and that the recruitment process be limited to eligible candidates from Ri Bhoi.
The RBPC welcomed the decision announced by the DMHO, Ri Bhoi, stating that only residents of the district would be eligible to appear for the Staff Nurse recruitment. According to the organisation, 192 candidates have already submitted their applications for the posts.
However, the organisation pointed out that the recruitment notification has not yet specified a date for the examination. It urged the authorities to conduct the examination within 14 days so that the recruitment process can be completed without unnecessary delay.
Speaking after the meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, RBPC leader Jason Lennox Nongrum, in the presence of Secretary Vincent Sohkhwai and Assistant Organising Secretary Victor Sulein, said the recruitment process should provide a fair and transparent opportunity for local youth.
He said the process should remain free from any allegations of corruption or backdoor appointments, referring to recent allegations surrounding recruitment in another district of the state.
Nongrum said the recruitment should provide an opportunity for Ri Bhoi youth to compete fairly and secure employment through merit and hard work.
He said the 20 Staff Nurse posts at MCH Hospital, Parila Umsning, should be filled through a transparent selection process among the 192 applicants from Ri Bhoi district.
The RBPC urged the authorities to complete the examination and subsequent recruitment process at the earliest while ensuring transparency and fairness throughout.
