Shillong, October 8: Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, Sanjeev Chopra, IAS, on Thursday inaugurated a Command and Control Centre at the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs office in Shillong to monitor the movement of vehicles transporting foodgrains.
Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Chopra said the system would enable authorities to track foodgrain vehicles transporting consignments from depots to Fair Price Shops.
The vehicles can be tracked through GPS devices installed in them or through the mobile phones of drivers, allowing officials to monitor their movement in real time and verify whether consignments have reached their designated destinations.
Chopra said the system would also help address complaints regarding vehicles not reaching Fair Price Shops and detect possible diversion or other irregularities in the supply chain.
In cases where a vehicle fails to reach its designated destination, authorities will be able to locate and track it immediately and take necessary action, he said.
Commissioner and Secretary Pravin Bakshi, IAS, Director I. Mawlong and other officials were also present during the inauguration.
