Shillong, October 8: Sawmer came from a goal down to defeat Mylliem 2-1 in the final Shillong Premier League 2026 match for both teams at the SSA Stadium here on Thursday.
Mylliem took the lead through Daohipaia Rymbai in the 45th minute, but Sawmer staged a second-half comeback with goals from Banteilang Lyngdoh in the 77th minute and Bickyson Kharkongor four minutes later.
The victory lifted Sawmer from seventh to fifth place with 12 points and kept their hopes of qualifying for the SSA Super Cup alive. The top six teams in the SPL will qualify for the Super Cup.
However, Sawmer will have to wait for the remaining league matches to know their fate. Meghalaya Police, on 11 points, and Rangdajied United, on 10 points, can still overtake them and push them out of the top six.
Mylliem finished their campaign at the bottom of the table with just one point from one draw and eight defeats. They will be relegated to the First Division next season.
Mylliem had threatened with a couple of long-range efforts in the first half before finally breaking the deadlock just before half-time, when Daohipaia beat Sawmer goalkeeper Urbanity Makhroh.
Sawmer had an opportunity to equalise early in the second half, but Diego Khyriem’s effort went wide. Mylliem’s Remark Kharmalki then fired over the crossbar while on the run.
Sawmer eventually found the equaliser in the 77th minute when Banteilang curled his shot past Mylliem goalkeeper Franklyn Surong.
Mylliem’s defensive errors then gave Sawmer further opportunities. Diego broke down the left from the halfway line and delivered a cross for Bickyson to score the winning goal in the 81st minute.
The result also confirmed Laitkor’s relegation. Laitkor can move level with eighth-placed Nangkiew Irat on nine points if they defeat Meghalaya Police on Friday, but Nangkiew Irat hold the head-to-head advantage after beating Laitkor on August 25.
Friday’s match: Meghalaya Police vs Laitkor, 3pm.
