SHILLONG, OCT 10: The BJP has begun a fresh organisational push in Meghalaya following the induction of eight former UDP MLAs into the party.

Party’s newly appointed state in-charge Kanad Purkayastha, who arrived in Shillong on Friday on his maiden visit after taking charge, held a closed-door meeting with the eight legislators.

Stating that expansion is the immediate priority, Purkayastha said, “This is our first visit as in-charge and co-in-charge. We met our newly joined MLAs and the main discussion was on how to expand and strengthen the organisation in Meghalaya. We have been given this responsibility.”

He said the party aims to take the development works of the Centre to every household.

“We want to reach every person in Meghalaya and apprise them of the developmental work done under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When every state is getting that scope for growth, Meghalaya should also get it,” he said.

Purkayastha parried questions on political issues, saying, “Other than organisational matters, we do not want to focus on any other political issues right now. After a few days, we will examine them and let you know.”

On the traffic congestion that delayed his arrival, he said, “The place I come from also has traffic problems. Friday afternoon jam is a usual phenomenon in Shillong, this is not the first time. Under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi, such problems can be solved in future.”
